Grill Beast Injector Materials, Design & Accessories
Grill Beast Injector is well-built and features an elegant design. It is entirely made of food-grade 304 stainless steel for great durability. It is neither too heavy nor too light and it feels comfortable in the hand, which is a great plus. The only potential issue is that the plunger does not move as smoothly as expected unless generously lubed. However, since this problem is easy to solve, we will not count it as a major downside.
Apart from the injector, the package includes 3 needles and spare o-rings. You get 1 solid needle with an angled tip, measuring 6 inches in length, one 12-hole needle of the same length, and one 3-inch precision needle for smaller cuts and more delicate injection jobs.
The injector does not come with many useful accessories, like cleaning brushes or a plastic or nylon case for convenient storage. We suppose that the absence of such extras can be justified by the rather low price. The set does come in a foam case that can be used to store the injector and needles.
Grill Beast Injector Performance
While researching for this Grill Beast Injector review, we were happy to see that the tool really does work as advertised. Its long needles allow for extra-deep penetration and enable the marinade to easily reach the center of the cut. Due to great sharpness, the needles can effortlessly sink into tough meat.
Depending on your preferences, you can use the 6-inch needle with the wide, open tip for thicker marinades with fine herbs and spices, you can use the 12-hole needle for easier and quicker dispersion of the marinade or you can use the short precision needle for thinner cuts, chicken thighs, and other cuts where a minimized puncture hole is preferred. Thanks to the 2-ounce capacity, there is no need to refill the barrel often.
Now, let us go over the minor flaws. First, it is important to know that even the long needle with a wide, open tip cannot handle minced garlic and onion and chunky marinades without clogging. Thus, the injector is best suited for liquid-only flavoring solutions and marinades with extra-fine herbs and spices. Second, the 12-hole needle has perforations quite close to the end opposite the tip, which means that you need to insert the needle all the way into the meat so you do not have to deal with the fountain effect.
On the plus side, the injector is perfectly easy to use. You just need to install the needle, fill the barrel with your favorite marinade, insert the needle into the meat, and slowly push the plunger for even dispersion. It is that simple.
While the injector is primarily designed for meat of all kinds, including everything from steaks and chops to whole birds, it can also be used for pastry filling. However, be sure not to use filling sauce whose temperature exceeds 212°F since the injector is not designed for higher temperatures.
Grill Beast Injector Maintenance
According to the user manual, you can wash Grill Beast Injector in the dishwasher. This is certainly the easier way, but not one that is recommended, as even the highest quality tools can suffer damage in dishwashers. However, it is up to you to choose your preferred cleaning method.
If you want to keep it safe and hand-wash the unit, you just need some dishwashing liquid, a sponge, and hot water. Cleaning should not take more than 3-4 minutes. For a more thorough clean, you can use a brush to remove residue from the inside of the barrel and needles.
After you wash all parts, you should dry them completely before reassembling. To avoid potential issues and ensure smooth movement of the plunger, be sure to coat the o-ring on the plunger and the gaskets on the needle threads with vegetable oil of your choice. Do not skip this step, as the plunger can be hard to push if these parts are not properly oiled up.
