GrillEye Meat Thermometer Design & Durability
With its eye-catching red-and-black color scheme and sleek design, GrillEye Meat Thermometer is a tool that is sure to delight many home cooks who appreciate good aesthetics. It is relatively compact, measuring 4.9 x 3.75 x 0.95 inches (LWD), and it features a nice, clear circular display and as many as 6 probe ports, which is a big plus. It is made of plastic that does not seem all too sturdy and requires you to handle the thermometer with care.
On the other hand, the probe quality is more than good. Both probes that come in the package are made of stainless steel and space-grade aluminum. Furthermore, they are FDA approved and can withstand temperatures of up to 716°F. We only wish they were a bit longer. Each probe measures 3.7 inches in length, features a 1.89-inch grip, and comes with a 45.3-inch wire.
In sum, GrillEye Meat Thermometer looks good and has high-quality, pro-grade probes, but its body is not made of strong, waterproof or shockproof materials. Thus, if you want it to last, you need to protect it from potentially fatal blows, bumps, and splashes.
GrillEye Meat Thermometer Features
In terms of features, GrillEye Meat Thermometer does well, offering everything you need to cook meat to perfection with minimum effort. Its dedicated smartphone app is well-designed and allows you to easily choose peak temperatures, set alarms, receive timely alerts, and more. Here are some of the key characteristics of this feature-rich thermometer.
Some meat thermometers feature only 1 probe, some have 2 probe ports, and GrillEye accommodates as many as 6 probes that can monitor both meat and ambient temperatures. This is a great advantage that not many of its competitors offer.
Dual Temperature Display
For your convenience, GrillEye Meat Thermometer is designed to display both the current and target temperatures simultaneously, making it easier to keep track of the meat’s cooking progress.
With GrillEye, you have a multitude of USDA presets at your disposal, so you can choose the right peak temperature in a tap. You can also set custom peak temperatures and save them for later use.
Whether you want the thermometer to remind you to take a look at the meat mid-cooking or know exactly how long you want to wait before removing the meat from heat, you can set timers with notes and rely on the tool to notify you when it is time for a check.
The thermometer offers both programmed temperature and timer alerts, allowing you to relax and have fun while cooking, knowing that even if you get carried away and forget to check the meat, GrillEye has got your back.
GrillEye Meat Thermometer Performance & Accuracy
If we are to be completely honest, the best way to describe GrillEye Meat Thermometer’s performance is to say that it works really well while it works. In other words, it is sure to satisfy your needs at first, but over time, it tends to lose functionality and accuracy. This is far from uncommon among meat thermometers, as they all have a limited lifespan, but it is important to know that you cannot use it for years without any issues whatsoever.
The maximum communication range of this thermometer is 300 feet, which is pretty good. However, you should know that in the presence of major obstacles, signal loss may occur at a distance of only 30 feet. While at peak performance, GrillEye is accurate within 4°F, so you do not have to worry about overcooking or undercooking. The temperature range of -58°F to 572°F is close to optimal. Temperature readings are updated constantly and alerts are near-instant.
Like we mentioned earlier in this GrillEye Meat Thermometer review, this tool is designed with grilling and smoking in mind, but it can also be used in pans, ovens, slow cookers, and other cooking units. However, it is not suitable for all kinds of food. It works best with meat and it can be used for baked goods. Since the probes are not waterproof, it cannot be used to monitor liquid temperature.
