ThermoPro TP20 Design & Durability
Although ThermoPro’s receiver and transmitter are primarily made of plastic and rubber, they are rather sturdy. The rubber sleeve casing offers great protection from bumps and scratches. The thermometer comes with two 6.5-inch probes; one with a step-down tip that easily penetrates meat and one with a blunt tip that is primarily suitable for measuring grill/ambient temperature but can also be used for food. The stainless steel mesh cables measure 40 inches in length, which is long enough for most uses but may not be ideal for all outdoor BBQs.
The backlit LCD screen lets you easily monitor food temperature in the dark. Due to its relatively large dimensions, it is easy to read the numbers and letters on the screen.
The receiver comes with a belt clip and a countertop stand. To secure the ambient temperature probe, you can use the provided grill/oven clip. These are nice accessories that should facilitate use, but we are not too enthusiastic about the design. The grill/oven clip is not perfectly easy to attach securely and the plastic belt clip is attached to the battery door on the receiver, which does not seem like an ideal choice.
In spite of these minor flaws, ThermoPro TP20 is more durable than many of its competitors and it can certainly last for years with proper use. The probes and cables are more sensitive than other parts, but if you avoid contact with water, the chance of malfunctions and inaccurate readings is minimized.

The thermometer comes with USDA presets for veal, chicken, pork, poultry, lamb, fish, ground beef, ground poultry, and beef. The additional taste/doneness settings are highly useful and can help you easily cook a perfect steak. For experienced users, there is the option to set custom times and temperatures.
Countdown And Count Up Timer
The countdown and count up timer comes with 2 duration options, including 99 minutes 59 seconds and 99 hours 59 minutes. Starting, stopping, and resetting the timer only requires a push of the button.
For worry-free use, ThermoPro TP20 provides handy alarms. There are alarms for programmed times and temperatures and the device also notifies you when the link between the transmitter and the receiver is broken.
ThermoPro TP20 Performance & Accuracy
Reliable and accurate, ThermoPro TP20 provides fresh temperature readings in no more than 5-7 seconds, with a margin of error of about 2°F. To enhance precision, be sure to place the ambient temperature probe about 1 inch from the grate and sink the tip of the meat probe into the center of the piece.
With a temperature range of 32°F to 572°F, the thermometer is not well-suited for cold food temperature monitoring and it is primarily designed for use in ovens, barbecues, and smokers. The probes and wires can withstand temperatures of up to 716°F. You can use the thermometer for meat, candy, and virtually all kinds of solid food, but it may not be an ideal choice for liquids and oil, primarily due to the inconvenient clip.
